cant we get solar powered cars, people? obama, work on this.

i miss the days when my brother pumped gas for me. he loved it. and i loved taking him because it meant that i didnt have to get out of the car, smell gasoline, or touch dirty handles. the feeling toward gas stations hasnt changed, but now my brother isnt as gullible or location convenient enough to do it for me and i dont and never will live in new jersey, so i have suck it up and do it. but believe me, i dont like it and so i do it as infrequently as possible. to me, gasoline is like some brand of instant coffee: good to the last drop. one friend of mine told me that it was good to ride around on a semi-empty tank because youd get better milage without the extra poundage of a full full tank. even if it wasnt true, i believed him because the theory works perfectly into my put it off til the last moment philosophy on filling up. and yes, ive heard its bad to ride around on empty, blah blah blah, bad gas at bottom (kind of like soda bottle backwash)....but let me have my denial. so today i realized that it maybe had been a few days with the empty light flashing (i remember it went on when i was driving home from somewhere, i just cant remember where). i hit my low point when i found myself sitting in my car in front of my friends house, angling my head from below the steering wheel and upwards so that the gas gauge looked like it was above the E and maybe i could make my way home. and that is when i know i have to fill up the tank. the E itself means nothing. its when i run out of pathetic excuses that i have to go get gas. but im never happy about giving in.

  1. two thoughts:
    1. my brother, who is a mechanic, says it's actually GOOD to let the tank go almost-empty so that the bad gas gets used. or something. point being, it's good. except maybe in winter.
    2. the gas station at the end of shrewsbury st is full-serve only.
