reprinting of a classic

now that ive begun my 5th year of medical school, it is time to take a moment to reflect back on the experience. not that i really want to. im a more live in the moment girl. to quote, well, im sure it has its origins in something mystical beautiful, but i know it from kung fu panda: the past is history, the future is a mystery, but today is a gift, that is why it is called the present. the past is full of bad hair days, questionable clothing choices (mkf, overalls?), and "why did i eat thats". why go there.
im going to relive a dark time of my life, an era we call '3rd year of medical school'. 3rd year is the opposite of 4th year (so nice im doing it twice). it was a dark time, literally, i never saw the light of day (fluorescent lights, while light, does not count...if you cant get a melanoma from it, it aint real light). so now i bring you a reprint of the now infamous "3rd year mental health survey". it comes in installments, just as the original did. and for all my people starting their internships tomorrow, look how far youve come. you are living the dream. and for all my people not in medicine: dont get sick starting.....now. l'chaim and to your health!

i bring you the emails, in their entirety from August 2008:

Rambling Rachel version:

Dear friends,
How are you? I really want to know. I've missed you and we haven't had a heart to heart in a long time. So to speed things up, I've created a survey so we can get out all those feelings we haven't had a chance to share.
I promise, there are only 10 questions (damn you survey monkey for limiting me) and it will really only take a few minutes. satisfy my curiosity. do it for me. its almost my birthday so you have to.
But really, I want to get some data to support my theory that third year wasn't as fantastic as they had promised. Remember when they told us it would be the best year ever? Finally we'd get our butts off the then orange 70s swivelly chairs and get out there on the stairwells and save lives? Right. Well, I'll share the results later. But this is totally anonymous. I don't care about you individually, only on the whole : )
So team, I want 100% participation.

Smiles,
Rachel
