In our search for culture and at the recommendation of Adi who is now officially a groupie, we went to go see Red Band, a musical puppet show for adults with lots of singing, swearing, and a mouse drug dealer. And the best part was that it was in English, so I understood all of it and the parts not suitable for my wholesome blog. Now, I count this is culture for several reasons. I was with my Israeli friends (adi, yael, etc-I would shout out to them but adi already told me she wont read my blog, because, why read it if im with her, she has a point, but still) and surrounded by Israelis at the concert, for an Israeli band, which is a spinoff of an Israeli TV show. Adi was in awe of their talent to sing in different voices, be funny, play instruments and have large puppets. I said I could do that too, all I needed was puppets, talent, esp musical talent, and someone to write jokes. And though they sang mostly American songs (most of which I didn’t know, even though I’m told they are classics and im actually sure they are), there is a song I think by the doors about going to a whiskey bar that has made its way into Israeli culture. At midnight every Saturday they play that song on the radio. Adi and I made sure we were in the car, listening to the radio the next Saturday to prove it (even making maya stay up way past a much needed bedtime). I am now more informed of Israeli life.
