I wouldn’t have let you get away with that in my country
To me, the best way to measure your skill in another language is to be able to stand up for yourself. I know my sister is good at Chinese not because she knows how to say random words like ‘wrench’ but because she can lay the smack down on anyone who pisses her off. Don’t mess with her in china. If you see a 100lb curly haired girl, smile or run. Those are your options. I cant do that here because I cant speak full sentences in Hebrew and im pretty sure I never learned any negative words in Hebrew school. Like I never knew how to say ‘bad’, I could only say ‘not good’. But that’s another story. Yesterday I was waiting in line at the post office (helpful hint from Lauren-you can exchange $ at a post office for the exchange rate and they don’t skim off the top. See Lauren, I gave you a compliment and not just telling everyone that you overpack and almost broke my back…) and then some woman just cut me in line! And I know she knew it. And she took forever! All I could think of was ‘lady, you are lucky you aren’t in my country because no way I would let you get away with that in my language.’ That would be followed by 3 snaps and some attitude. But no, I just had to suck it up and smile. I’m a carpet, just walk all over me. you wasted 3 minutes of my time, lady. And ill never be able to get them back. Dammit, you were right dad, I should have paid attention in Hebrew class : )
