i did want to comment about yesterdays israeli elections that amazingly made it into the american media. it only effected me by giving me a day off which i spent sleeping, dragging my bum out to coffee shop, getting stuck in said coffee shop due to rain, then facebook stalking people in the morning when they woke up (my afternoon). but back to the elections.
the system is a bit confusing here. you vote for a party, not a person. but really, you are kind of voting for a person. because youll vote for the party of the person you like. but anyhoo, its too close to call now. so ive taken to asking israelis what it means. whats happening. now my friends said theyd explain it to me this weekend, so ill report more in depth later. but this is the responses from the doctors ive randomly just walked up to and said 'explain the election to me'.
Israeli intern: if you get it, explain it to me.
Israeli MD: we haven't been able to make a majority decision...um...ever. this is no surprise. no one agrees on anything. lets look at your messed up political system instead. you are all corrupt.
R: but obama has a halo.
IMD: look at all the corruption in his party. even in IL where he came from.
R: but he is perfect. there is corruption everywhere. and he is exposing it.
IMD: no one is paying taxes. these people should be paying taxes
R: hey wait, i was talking about your politics. dont try and get out of this.
IMD: fine.
R: what are the issues you are voting on?
IMD: we are voting for the best person. your politics determine the economic situation, which hasnt affected us yet, but will. and as for the arab-israeli conflict, the one thing we can all agree on is that there may never be a resolution. we may never live in peace. there is no perfect answer. everyone is in unchartered territory.
i hate politics. such a drag.
