rachel's activity corner

i swear i have other friends who are not in medicine to add diversity to my life. ok, that isnt really true, but at least some of them had other careers before or are married to people with other careers which bring new perspective to my life. or a little insight into how minds work. for example, i was out to brunch with my friends this weekend, one a former design nerd (now in medicine) and married to a current design nerd (im secretly hoping that their baby will turn out to be a punk bully with tats, dog collar, and must have a skull something on them at all times....which would go against my other plan of making her wear all pink frills all the time...ill take either...because both would drive them crazy). so over my yummy berry bliss pancakes we discussed the symbol on the diet coke bottle (not my diet coke bottle, i reserve that form of caffeine for after my coffees). he was convinced it was a dog with a cute heart eye patch (and absent other eye). i kind of see it....

but i also know better. what do you see?
now i love brain puzzles, as any good nerd would. my favorites were the ones that came in highlights magazine and also appeared in psychology text books which would make me think that i was an intellectual from a young age. for you folks at home playing along, this is a classic:

i can never see the young woman first! i know she's there, but the old lady keeps popping up. what does that say about me? am i meant to see the old and ugly in things? forever the pessimist? i might have bitter sarcastic humor now, but will it inevitably turn to just bitter? why must you hide from me young woman? you are making me feel bad about myself.
and for your final challenge, my design friends pointed me to their favorite, its so obvious, brain confuser. i knew it was there, yet i spent a few minutes (fine, hours) trying to find the frickin arrow. i finally had to ask for a hint. what is wrong with my brain. see if you do better:

the arrow was in front of me all this time. sneaky, fedex, very sneaky.
