have you been talking to my parents?

you know how most physicians try to convince you to stay at their hospital for residency, its a polite thing to do, they try to recruit you whether or not you have any intention to apply and they have any intention to accept you. its just what you say to be a nice person. i ran into an anesthesia attending (the same one from the infamous annual fiascos at conferences which if you havent heard about, you must grab me or mary my bff right now for the story, its too hilarious for blog-ie one for the novel) who roped me into conversation after offering to buy me a coffee and in a moment of withdrawal and poverty, i agreed. she asked me about my life plans and then very bluntly said 'you should go to nyc for residency'. not typical to try and send you elsewhere. she continued 'that is the only place you will find a jewish man, you have to go to nyc, thats where they all are'. um, ok. then she starts asking the CRNA (i assume, i have no idea who this man is) next to us if he knows any nice jewish boys. his eyes said 'who are you lady' while his voice said 'no'. and then the OR nurse next to me was like 'i dont know you, but you should go to nyc'. then my attending came up with the brilliant idea that she could date a slightly older man and i could have his son. and then it would be a guaranteed awesome mother-in-law. now both she and my parents are trying to ship me out to nyc, like a mail order bride except in reverse (or something like that). am i that pathetic? dont answer that.

  2. I vote for NYC too -- even though I can vouch for the fact that it's really not that easy to find a Jewish man even there...
