why don't we go anywhere?

i travel. im very proud of my passport. or actually, my previous passport (damn you med school for slowing me down....and damn you european union for not giving stamps out anymore when you go to different countries). and of course, my list is growing for places that i want to go (australia...i really am coming for you someday....and im taking deb with me...so take that evil email writer...i hate you). ok, back from my rant. what im trying to say is that ive traveled, but israelis and for that matter, europeans, have been to 800 times as many places as me. and thats even true for the US. ive never been to san francisco or the middle of the country (which im quite proud of)...but a lot of israelis have. and now ive been called to defend the US people. which ive stepped up to do. whether im convincing or not, im not sure. but seriously, why dont we go anywhere?
these are my theories:
1. cost. its frickin expensive. and we're in a recession here people. not everyone can be so delusional as i am. ive been using the 'sanity money' excuse forever. that doesnt work on most rational people.
2. time. we dont have a built in socially acceptable time to travel. if there was one, maybe our parents would support it as normal and help with the funding. that would take care of #1. for example, israelis travel after the army. but again, they deserve it. i probably dont.
3. we dont have national pride in our landmarks. the argument i was having with a resident was that he was saying 'why dont you want to see the golden gate bridge, its a national landmark'. and my response was, its a national tourist trap. ill see it if i happen to be in front of it. maybe ill take a picture. but thats it.
4. if we travel, we see family. since the us extended family is spread out, the time we do have we have to travel to see each other. and its a perfect reason to go visit bubbie and zayde in florida. plus, since all my non-medschool friends are outside worcester (why arent you in worcester, why? dont answer that) i might think about traveling to see them. but not to see some old guys/presidents heads carved in a cliff. i think ill pass.

whats your excuse : )
